What is Conscious Womb Care (And Why Do You Need It)?

Conscious womb care is part of a growing movement of women who are intentionally becoming more familiar and perhaps even reverent of their lady bits.

Many are coming to a place of consciousness to their bodies and beginning to engage in practices that honor and support self-love of the sacred vessels that carry us in this lifetime.

Yoni steam and vaginal steam are both terms used to describe the practice of a woman squatting or sitting over a bowl of steaming water or steaming herbs. Think of it as the ultimate in self-care for your pussy. Peristeam describes steaming the perineum (the area between the genitals and the anus) and can be beneficial to both men and women.

Yoni is a Sanskrit word that means something like ‘the sacred gate of a woman that delivers pleasure and brings forth life’. A yoni in more medical terms is synonymous with the vagina, and in more current vernacular, pussy, which is my preferred American English term as it includes the inner and outer parts, as well as the cervix, all of which are greatly benefited by the practice of steaming.

You might be saying, “Look lady, my pussy is FINE.
It doesn’t need ‘self-care’.”

But let me ask: Do you put lotion on your skin? Deep condition your hair? Brush your teeth? These are all self-care practices that are now considered the MOST BASIC for grooming and hygiene at a step just above survival level existence.

A bit about our bodies and their organs. Each major organ in our bodies has a cleanse cycle, with the exception of the pure heart in each of us which does not process anything so has no waste products. Some, like the kidneys and liver, process stuff in our bodies all day, then purges and cleanses itself nightly while we sleep. The waste from that ends up in our bowel movements and urine in the morning. Our skin is constantly cleansing itself by sloughing off the top layer of skin, one dead cell at a time. Sometimes, our bodies get clogged up and need some extra help to get back to their usual working order. That’s why we drink fresh juices and do cleanses and fast to help our body reset itself to its optimal working order.

Well, our womb has a monthly cleanse cycle. When our bodies discover that we are not pregnant at the designated time (most typically 27-30 days since our last womb cleanse), our uterus sheds the lining it prepared for an implanting egg and begins to build a fresh one. Sometimes, our shedding doesn’t go to plan, and sometimes other parts of the menstrual cycle are affected adversely as well, and the womb just needs a little help getting things to rights.

Conscious womb care goes beyond just steaming to include the principles of cultivating a consciously feminine lifestyle.

This path includes:

  • Creating pleasing environments full of beauty and comfort

  • Deep rest during the womb cleanse part of our moon cycle

  • Forgoing the use of internal menstrual products that inhibit the natural cleansing process

  • Nutritious and supportive foods including blood building foods post-cleanse

  • Regular exercise

  • Feeding the Feminine First self-love practices (self-massage, self-pleasure, grooming for pleasure, adornment practices, time for pleasurable and/or creative activity, time for reflection and meditation to connect with the deep self and the divine),

  • Time for intuitive and spiritual development

Conscious Womb Care Ceremonies are part women’s circle, part steam practice, and are designed to give tools and maybe more importantly a dedicated time and space for women to devote to deep connection with themselves, the Great Mother (both the planet and the Spiritual archetype), and other women.

Breathing and grounding techniques, sharing, being witnessed and witnessing others, guided meditation, heart-provoking journaling, steaming instruction and facilitation, energy clearing and blessing, and delectable tea and end of ceremony sacrament are all part of the Conscious Womb Care Ceremonies created by Madame Moonflower.
